See the World as Your True Sanctuary
Apr 08, 2026Today was a glorious day!
Over the past week, I’ve been planning a sanctuary just outside my back window. This backyard spot is a sacred space where my spiritual work unfolds, where I sense the Spirit accompanying me. I thought of a border to hold flowers beside butterfly bushes. I will plant a flowering tree in the middle of the area, anchoring it all.
When I went outside to take in the early spring day, a white butterfly danced past me, the first of the season. It lingered in the same patch where one had lived last year, as if returning, as if remembering.
I pulled out the riding lawnmower and filled it with gas. I happened to glance down, and something caught my eye. It was a feather. I picked it up and held it in my hand, recognizing it as an eagle feather, joining the two I had saved from last year. A quiet continuity.
In the field, at least a dozen yellow butterflies danced through the air, bright and weightless. I praised God for Her beauty on such a peaceful day.
As I turned the mower, I noticed my first bumblebee, gently landing on a flower. Not far beyond, a honeybee appeared, moving with purpose in search of nectar. And then, on the far side of the field, there it was. Above me, steady and watchful, was the bald eagle I had seen in this very spot last year.
I was filled with elation. I felt as if the angel Ariel was putting on a show, a gift just for me.
By afternoon, I set everything aside and sat in the stillness, feeling the warmth of our Creator's love. It came to me then: the world itself is a sanctuary.
All I have to do is stop and take notice.
It is already here.
