A Lighter Way Week 5

From the Spirit Wheel by Steven Charleston:

What I Saw as a Child

When I was a child I thought of the world around me

As a magical place

With small spirits darting through my grandmother’s garden

Like fireflies at night

Unseen voices whispering stories

From the branches of the old cottonwood tree

And angels flying around the house

To chase the billowing storm clouds away.

All these images and a thousand more

Filled the spirit world in which I lived.

But now I am older

So I have come to understand reality.

And what I understand is this:

I was absolutely right about what I saw as a child.

Because I still see it now.

I still live in a spirit world. I hope you do too.

Reflection:

Oh, for the playful joy that life brings as a child of discovery. I sit outside watching my two grandchildren chasing butterflies and a fox across the backyard. No responsibilities, just the wonder of being young. They do not run about seeking purpose; nature sets the table for them. Their open hearts prevail, soaking up colors and textures and longing for more of the same. Then come the quiet times outside, filled with the chirps and humming of birds. Sunrays fall like beams between the tree limbs. A deer quietly walks by. There is awe in the air. For the Spirit is present in all of these things. An understanding that it has always been that way. An uplifting view of God’s tapestry. Gentle, yet powerful. The angels watch over us. They tend to the scenery. They partner with us so that we may grow closer to the Creator.

Blessing:

May God rain down Her love upon us

May we embrace the depths of commitment to us that She offers

May the Spirit lead us to fulfillment

May we know in our hearts the never-ending presence of God, the Spirit, and the angels

You see, it has always been that way from our ancestors to today

May gratitude flow from the inside out

Practice:

Sit with God today

Sit with nature so that you may feel the Spirit flow through all things

Have a conversation with your guardian angel, for the angel desires a closer bond

Spend time with those who matter most to you
