Open Your Heart to Unseen Companions

" At its foundation, it is a journey of opening our hearts to the love of all those sacred beings who dwell in spiritual form across the veil. Our Western minds may tell us that  what we see is all there is, but the religious and mystical imagination knows a deeper truth."

~Christine Valters Paintner, author of The Love of Thousands: How Angels, Saints, & Ancestors Walk With Us Toward Holiness.

When the Unseen Draws Near

There are moments when the veil feels thin, when something holy brushes close enough to steady us, comfort us, or simply remind us that we are not alone. Over the past months, I’ve found myself living with a heightened awareness of the unseen: the presence of Angels, the movement of the Spirit, the quiet companionship of God in the ordinary rhythms of my days.

I don’t claim to understand these encounters. I only know that they have become part of the landscape of my life, unexpected, tender, and deeply grounding.

A Circle of Light at the Graveside

I attended the visitation and funeral of a dear friend’s wife. The visitation felt like a family reunion wrappedin grief and gratitude, love moving freely between people who had been shaped by her life.

At the burial the next day, as the wind moved through the trees, I sensed the presence of Angels forming a circle around her casket. Their nearness felt like a blessing, a quiet assurance that she was being accompanied into the fullness of God’s love.

One Angel stepped forward, touched my friend’s shoulder, and stood beside him in his grief. That moment changed me. It felt like witnessing the tenderness of God made visible. Since that day, something in me has remained open, more attuned, more expectant, more willing to trust that the Holy is nearer than we imagine.

A Sanctuary in the Trees

On my farm, there is a small sanctuary where I often go to pray. The Spirit moves through the branches there, and I often sense the presence of Angels, sometimes standing, sometimes dancing, always inviting me into deeper awareness. I speak to them out loud. I lift my hands. I ask for clarity, protection, and wisdom. And in return, I feel warmth, acceptance, and a kind of companionship that dissolves loneliness. It is not dramatic. It is simply real. This spring, I hope to build an altar for the Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel.

Someone once told me that it doesn’t matter how many statues you place on the table; pray, and the right one will receive the message. I’m holding onto that. I imagine a church pew nestled among butterflies and bee bushes, a place where mystics and raccoons and deer all feel equally at home.

The Holy in the Everyday

One afternoon, while meditating, I sensed another presence. When I opened my eyes, an Angel was with me, whether my Guardian or another, I do not know. But I felt attended to. Seen. Loved. These encounters have taught me something simple and profound: The Angels, the Spirit, and God accompany us through every hour of our lives. Loneliness gives way to reassurance. Fear softens into trust. The heart opens to abundance. I don’t share these stories to convince anyone of anything. I share them because they
are part of my unfolding life with God, mysterious, surprising, and full of grace. And perhaps they might help someone else notice the quiet shimmer at the edge of their own days.

Because the Holy is always near, sometimes we need to look with the eyes of the heart.
